Heschel Lucanius — a tall man in worn leather armor, dark hair, weathered features, stern but warm

The Ruler

Heschel Lucanius

Age 33·Sargosian

Last heir of a Sargosian founding family line, Heschel is a free-agent Knight of the Silver Flame — a Lantern — sanctioned by the Seat of the Archmage to hunt down mages corrupted by demonic influences and bring them to account. Known for his commanding presence, his keen investigative and interview discipline, and an unmistakable composure in any room he enters, Heschel recognises that violence is always a choice and never a response.

Stubborn, self-possessed. His flaw is control.

Senara — a young woman with vivid red hair and freckles, alert and direct, leather under-armor

The Companion

Senara Pryce

Age 18·Mydlothnyan

A young orphan raised by Heschel these last four years, Senara wants nothing more than to be a Seeker like her brother — and to walk beside Heschel as he hunts down fallen mages. She is a shrewd observer and a keen judge of character. She may have lived a rural life in the marches, but her survival skills serve her anywhere, even in the massive city of Portasang.

Loyal, protective. Her flaw is impulse.

Phillipe Durand — a tall lean man with blonde hair and a goatee, late twenties, restrained dominance, sword at hip

The Soldier

Phillipe Durand

Age 26·Alendorish

Dry but unyielding, Phillipe is a sworn Death Hunter — anointed by the last Shikaare Guru in Avaris — who has carried the tradition of hunting the undead for the god Magon Rahm into the heart of Portasang. He is a daunting figure in size and fierce in a fight, but a trained professional soldier who rarely commits to violence — and sees it through when he does.

Reticent, grim. His flaw is adherence.

Renault Osmont — slim young man with blonde hair and striking dark blue eyes, sardonic half-smile, scholar's bearing

The Innocent

Renault Osmont

Age 24·Cullich

Orphaned and raised in the Old Town of Portasang, growing up on the streets with Phillipe, Renault learned arts, reading, and theology from his mother — all before she disappeared when he was six. Always physically weaker than his peers, Renault learned that a quick wit and well-strung words could see him through most challenges. One challenge he was not prepared for was the betrayal that landed him at the crossroads of fate and opportunity with the god of death.

Nonplussed, conscientious. His flaw is naivety.

Boaz Kirfu — an Amonite man in his early twenties, dark-skinned, athletic, facial markings, composed stillness

The Reluctant

Boaz Kirfu

Age 25·Amonite

One of the last surviving Shikaare of Avaris, Boaz is a priest and a mage in the old faiths of Magon Rahm — a worship isolated for hundreds of years in the deserts of Amon. Portasang sees the god of death as a kindly gatekeeper to a peaceful afterlife. Boaz must remind the church of its true purpose, and bring the faith out of decadence and corruption by reminding it of the old ways.

Patient, criticising. His flaw is doubt.

Gaston Andvari — a compact muscular man in his mid-thirties with a scarred forehead, weathered features, Portasang working-class wear

The Guide

Gaston Andvari

Age 36·Portasang Native

Gaston has always been a fighter, both in life and by trade. He is bombastic, the first to step up to defend his friends, and well known throughout the Timbers district of Portasang. Thorfors — or, as the humans call them, dwarves — are uncommon in Portasang. One like Gaston is rarer still. You would be lucky to call him a friend.

Relentless, stern. His flaw is pride.
