S. L. Patrick is the creator, director, and writer of In Nomine Mortis. He has been making fantasy at the small-press level since the 1990s. His first published work, Wayfarer Infinity, was a sci-fantasy space-opera roleplaying game in a print run of eight hundred copies that sold out within a year, worked booth-by-booth at GenCon, Origins, and the conventions of the era.

The book carries a foreword by Gary Gygax — the father of Dungeons & Dragons and of the tabletop genre Patrick has spent his life inside. In 1997 and 1998 he ran his own Houston convention, I Think Therefore I Con, in close company with the founding generation of the industry. A photograph of him with Gygax himself survives from those days.

Three decades on, the medium has changed and the story has not. In Nomine Mortis is the first project of Birdseed Studios — heroic fantasy in the old tradition, told with new instruments, by a creator who has been at this since the small-press days and who has built every frame with the care the genre deserves.
